For years, I have asked myself a question that many quietly wrestle with: What is my purpose? I have done what seemed right, worked hard, raised children, served others, prayed, and tried to follow God faithfully. Yet, there remains a quiet tug in my heart whispering, There must be more. If you have ever felt this way, this post is for you.

The Struggle with Purpose

There have been times when I started something new with excitement, a role, a ministry idea, or a project. But after a while, the passion faded. Other times, I kept going, but the joy slipped away. I found myself asking, Is this it? Is this what I was created for?

This struggle is common. Wrestling with purpose means your heart is still soft and searching. It means you want to live intentionally, not just drift through life. That desire to find meaning is a sign of hope, not failure.

What the Word of God Says About Purpose

Turning to scripture has brought clarity and peace. Here are two passages that have helped me:

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."

This reminds me that purpose is not always a sudden discovery. It unfolds as we follow God step by step, trusting Him even when the way is unclear.

Proverbs 3:9-10 (NLT)

"Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine."

This verse shows that God blesses what is done with honor and obedience. Purpose may not only be about what we do but how we live—faithfully, with integrity and love.

Purpose as a Daily Walk

I once believed purpose meant finding one big calling. Now I see it differently. Purpose can be about faithfulness in everyday life—being present, loving well, and doing God’s will in ordinary moments.

For example, raising children may feel like a full season of purpose. It might not seem grand, but it shapes lives and reflects God’s love. Serving in small ways, like encouraging a friend or volunteering quietly, can also be part of living purposefully.

That persistent pull in your heart might not mean you are lost. It could be a holy restlessness, drawing you closer to God, reminding you to stay connected and attentive.

What If Purpose Comes in Seasons?

What if purpose is not a single destination but a series of seasons? Each season has its own focus and meaning.

  • Season of Raising Children

This season demands energy, patience, and sacrifice. It shapes the future and teaches lessons in love and responsibility.

  • Season of Serving Others

Maybe your purpose is to support a community or church ministry. This season might involve giving time, skills, or resources.

  • Season of Personal Growth

Sometimes, purpose is about preparing yourself—learning, healing, or deepening your faith.

Each season prepares you for the next, building a life that reflects God’s plan over time.

Embracing the Journey with Faith

Living with purpose means embracing the journey, not just the destination. It means trusting God daily, even when the path is unclear or the work feels small.

Here are some practical steps to help you embrace your journey:

  • Pray regularly

Ask God to reveal His will and give you peace about your current season.

  • Reflect on your gifts and passions

Consider how your talents can serve others and glorify God.

  • Stay connected to community

Share your struggles and joys with trusted friends or mentors.

  • Be patient with yourself

Purpose unfolds over time. Allow yourself grace in the process.

  • Celebrate small victories

Recognize moments of faithfulness and growth, even if they seem ordinary.

Moving Forward with Hope

If you feel a quiet tug in your heart, remember it is part of your spiritual journey. Purpose is not always a clear answer but a path walked with faith. It changes with seasons and grows as you grow.

Keep seeking, trusting, and living with intention. Your purpose is unfolding, and every step matters.
